David Lee Hamblin, a 70-year-old former therapist and Mormon church member from Provo, Utah, has been involved in multiple legal cases concerning child sexual abuse. He was first arrested in 2012 on 18 counts related to the alleged rape and abuse of his two daughters, but those charges were dismissed in 2014 without prejudice. [2] In 2022, he was arrested again on six first-degree felony charges related to child sexual abuse, including allegations of ritualistic abuse involving multiple victims over several decades, with incidents reportedly occurring between the 1980s and 1990s. [3][4][7][10] The investigation revealed disturbing claims, including that Hamblin allegedly forced children to perform sexual acts, sometimes during therapy sessions or “healing circles,” and that he administered religious blessings during some of these sessions. [3][8][9] In February 2025, a Utah County court dismissed one of the 2022 cases with prejudice due to discovery issues, leaving only six second-degree felony charges pending in Sanpete County related to abuse of a young boy in Spring City in 1990.[4][5] Despite community opposition and a petition calling for his bail to be denied, Hamblin was granted release on a $100,000 bond in March 2023, subject to a pretrial protected order, GPS monitoring, and passport surrender.[6] His ex-wife, Roselle Stevenson, was arrested in 2023 and investigated alongside him for alleged ritualistic abuse.
