Defending Liberty: A Call to Courage and Action

In the face of overwhelming odds, how do we fight a hydra or a leviathan? The establishment has shown us the lengths to which it will go to silence dissent. Protesters are locked away, their voices stifled, and their actions demonized. It seems impossible to go on the offense without facing accusations of treason or insurrection, especially for those standing up for conservative values. Unlike Mitt Romney, who condoned Antifa’s actions as righteous, conservatives are vilified and imprisoned for defending their rights. What hope do we have? How can we make a difference?
First and foremost, we must reject the notion that surrender is an option. The alternative is unacceptable. The New Testament teaches us that living a life in Christ Jesus will bring persecution. During the time of Christ, the Jews avoided persecution by collaborating with the government, while Christians faced the lion’s den for standing against Rome. The term “Ecclesiastes” was treasonous in Rome, as it signified a political body. The Founding Fathers, too, faced persecution for defying the government. History shows us that standing up for what is right often comes with great risk.
We must take courage and do what is right, regardless of the consequences. There is no magic trick to avoid persecution. Simply changing our language or mailing in our driver’s licenses will not dismantle the satanic conspiracy we face. We must be willing to recognize and accept the risks involved in our fight for liberty. Each of us must judge the level of risk we are willing to engage in and act accordingly.
Yes, there is risk, but we must do it anyway. The fight for liberty requires courage, determination, and unwavering commitment. We must stand together, support one another, and never lose sight of the principles that guide us. The Tree of Liberty Society calls on all of us to rise to the challenge, defend our rights, and ensure that liberty prevails.
Gathering with others is crucial because resistance to tyrants is obedience to God, and that is our mission.
Men of God have declared, “I defy the United States!” We must adopt this defiance. Today, we are shamed into believing we must obey the government without question. This is a new phenomenon. Historically, God’s servants have always resisted unjust rulers. Daniel defied the king. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego defied the king. When we promote the violation of the Constitution, we oppose God. We are not the odd ones out; those who go against the scriptures and history are.
Captain Moroni hoisted his title of liberty, proclaiming, “In memory of our God, our religion, and our freedom and our peace, our wives, and our children.” We must be peculiar and stand firm in our faith and liberty. The cause of liberty is the cause of anyone who calls themselves a Christian. If we covenant to follow Christ, we covenant to support liberty, not tyranny or mandates.
This struggle predates the world. There was one who sought to destroy man’s agency, and we said no. We have bodies because we chose agency. John Taylor taught that our mission includes perpetuating free agency and maintaining liberty. This is our eternal duty.
The Lord said, “Ye are the salt of the earth… Ye are the light of the world.” We must let our light shine for liberty. Some fear sticking their necks out, but the Founding Fathers did just that. If we neglect our covenant to support liberty, we cannot be called God’s people. Freedom is integral to our devotion to God. Imagine if the Founding Fathers had only prayed and not fought against the British. We wouldn’t be here today.
We must break the trend of churches staying within their four walls, a trend that began in the early 1900’s. We must boldly proclaim the cause of Christ and liberty to the world.
The Lord has declared that secret combinations will be stopped before His coming. It is our duty to work for liberty, expose these hidden works of darkness, and prevent their continuation. The feudal lords will be vanquished. Let us maintain the title of liberty, come forth in the strength of the Lord, and enter into this covenant to uphold our rights and religion. May the Lord God bless us in this endeavor.

The Apostle Paul says that if we are living a life in Christ Jesus, we shall receive persecution. And so I would ask you that if you're afraid of that, are you afraid of your testimony of Christ? Or are you willing to stand up for the cause that he fought for and that you fought for to get yourself a body in the first place? Because that is something that we're responsible to stand up for now. And are we going to be willing and proud of or pleased with the efforts that we need to report to our Savior on the other side? Or are we going to be able to just bow ourselves and say that we were too afraid, that we weren't willing to pay the price to get liberty that we fought for before we came here? And that we just need to have that, you know, our lives are--there's something worse than death. And that is standing before my Savior saying, "I could have done more and was too scared to." I think we need to get over ourselves and just do the right thing because it's the right thing to do. People--and I hate this--is like, they'll say that you're--I'm like, "I'm not brave. There's just no other option. I don't see--I don't understand that mindset. It just-- it's something that escapes--it's mind-boggling to me that people would have that mindset. You just have to do the right thing.
I was just going to ask you, you talked about going on the offense. How do you fight a Hydra or a Leviathan? I mean, you see what they've done to people who protested on January 6th. I mean, they're locked away, you know, cobwebs being whatever the, you know, they say about them. I don't see how you can go on the offense because if you were to do any of this stuff now, you'd be arrested for treason or trying to start an insurrection or something like that. If you were a conservative person trying to, you know, stand up for your rights, unlike Mitt Romney when he said, "Oh, you know, Antifa, they can go down burn cities because they're doing it for the right." But if somebody--I just see that they're conservative and they're trying to stand up for the right and the government right now just throws them away, lock and key. So what hope, I guess, what hope do we have or how do you believe you can make a difference?
What's the alternative, first of all? I'm not accepting it. It's not acceptable. And so we have to be willing to do that. In the Scriptures, in the New Testament, it says that if we are--I think it's in Peter--he says that if we are to live our life in Christ Jesus, we shall receive persecution. And so you look at, you know, during the--in Rome and in Israel, during the time of Christ, you have the Jews. They did not receive persecution from the government and they were able to actually work with the government. They were in cahoots with the government and they were not--they didn't receive any persecution. But then you have the Christians. We have the word "ecclesiastes" today, "ecclesiastical." That was--using that word in that day was actually "treason" in Rome. And so they--because it was the Greek, legislative body was called--was called "ecclesiastes."
And so when they called themselves that, they were saying that they were a political body. And then you go to, of course, you go to the founding fathers, and they were the ones not going along with the government, and so they received their persecutions. And you see that over and over again. But were they wrong to have done that? Was it wrong for these early Christians to be standing up against Rome and being thrown to the lion's den? We have to take courage to do what is right, no matter what the consequences. And I'm not saying that there's no consequence. Absolutely. We have to be willing to recognize that there is a consequence. If we think there's a magic trick, if we just stop using our, you know, capital letters, or if we mail in our driver's license, all of a sudden this satanic conspiracy won't go after us, we're gonna be sorely mistaken. And we're gonna find ourselves in a whole lot of trouble that we maybe wouldn't be in otherwise. And so we have to judge what risk that we are, as individuals, willing to engage in. And so I would say that, yeah, that's definitely a risk, and we have to do it anyways. Resistance to tyrants is obedience to God. And that's what we're gonna do. The university has really desecrated the name of this man of God and the servant of God, who said, along with John Taylor, "I defy the United States." We need to defy the United States. This is a new thing. We're being shamed now to think that we need to just obey whatever the government says. That's a new thing. The servants of God, you go back to Daniel, he resisted the king. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego resisted the king. Brigham Young resisted and said, "I defy the United States." These mandates, we support the Constitution, the principles of liberty. The Lord Himself said that the Constitution, He established the Constitution. When we are, as an organization, promoting the violation of the Constitution, we are actually the ones that are going against God. And we here should realize that we are the ones that are not the weird ones. It's those that are going against the Scriptures and against history that are the weird ones.
Moroni, Captain Moroni, established his, hoisted his title of liberty. We have somebody here with a title of liberty. You can read it. It says, "In memory of our God, our religion, and our freedom, and our peace, our wives, and our children." We're supposed to be peculiar, absolutely. And therefore, at this time, Moroni prayed that the cause of the Christians and the freedom of the land might be favored. The cause of liberty is the cause of anyone calling themselves a Christian. Behold, whosoever will maintain this title, let them come forth in the strength of the Lord and enter into a covenant that they will maintain their rights. If we are covenanting to be a follower of Christ, we are covenanting to support the cause of liberty, not the cause of tyranny, not the cause of mandates. This goes back before the world was. There was a, there was a guy that said he wanted to destroy the agency of man. We said, "No." The reason we have a body is because we said we want everybody to make their choice. And that battle did not stop when we came here to have a body. John Taylor said that besides the preaching of the gospel, we have another mission, namely the perpetuation of the free agency of man and the maintenance of liberty. That is our job here. It is our job always. The Lord himself says, "Ye are the salt of the earth, but if the salt has lost its savor, wherewith shall it be salted?" Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid, neither do men light a candle and put it in a bushel, but on a candlestick and it giveth light. Let your light so shine for the cause of liberty. There are some though that are scared. They say, "Well, you know, we don't want to come out here to a protest. We don't want to put our necks out." The Founding Fathers stuck their necks out. When we do not follow our covenant to support the cause of liberty, we cannot be called the people of God. There are some that say we just need to live the gospel and not worry about freedom. You know what? Freedom is a part of the gospel. Imagine the Founding Fathers saying, "We're just not going to fight against the British because we're just going to pray." We wouldn't be here today.
We need to go against this trend starting in the 1900s of the churches just staying within their four walls. That's why we're in the situation that we're in. We need to proudly proclaim the cause of Christ, the cause of liberty to the world and not be ashamed of these things. Leading up to Moroni, rending his coat and creating the title of liberty, the members of the church began to be filled with pride because of the riches of the riches and they refused to listen to Helaman. There was a man named Amalekiah who wanted to rule over the people. He conspired with others, even members of the church, to try and gain power. So he began to lead many of the members away from the teachings of Helaman. And when Moroni heard of this, the scriptures say that he became angry. Righteous anger is righteous. He must have felt the need to speak out publicly because that is when he created the title of liberty and went among the people telling them to enter into this covenant. Moroni took the initiative upon himself. We should not be commanded in all things. Here today we were not commanded, we were invited. We took the initiative to stand forward for the cause of Christ. And they stood against this conspiracy. The book of Mormon warns us of this conspiracy. Ether chapter 8 says that if we allow this conspiracy to continue, it will prove our destruction.
We must stand for liberty and destroy this conspiracy that is seeking to destroy the agency of man. This Captain Moroni has said that if all men had been and were and ever would be like him, behold the very powers of hell would be shaken forever. Yea, the devil would have never have power over the hearts of the children of men. How did Moroni take care of this conspiracy against the liberty of the people? It came to pass that whomsoever of the Amalekites that would not enter into a covenant and support the cause of freedom that they might maintain a free government, he caused to be put to death and there would be but few who denied the covenant of freedom. And it came to pass also that he caused the title of liberty to be hoisted upon the tower which was in all the land, which was possessed by the Nephites. Moroni planted the standard of liberty. We can use our influence and follow his example by warning the people, by using our influence to spread the title of liberty and the principles of the cause of Christ to defend liberty.
The result of his actions was peace in the land. The Lord has declared that before the coming of Christ these secret combinations will be stopped. They will be dismantled. It is our job to work for the cause of liberty, destroy the works by exposing them and not allowing them to continue in our own lives. The would-be feudal lords will be vanquished. It is my prayer that we will maintain the title upon the land, that we will come forth in the strength of the Lord and enter into this covenant that we will maintain our rights, our religion, that the Lord God may bless us. Thank you.
